SQL Database Administrator

Based in Farnborough, Hampshire

Salary up to £45k dependant on experience

We’re looking for an experienced, self-motivated and confident SQL Database Administrator to join a well established client in Farnborough. The role is integral for the implementation and support of leading edge technologies within the organisation and on a global scale.

The role will require you to provide support and guidance on the Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure whilst adhering to best practice and company policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular housekeeping and maintenance procedures, including backup and recovery and ensuring effective monitoring.
  • Maintain user access administration and auditing, enforcing least privileges methodology to SQL servers and databases
  • Provide in-depth support to dependant teams and functions.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server outages as they occur and take pro-active measures to reduce the likelihood of re-occurrence.
  • Define and advise on opportunities for improvement on SQL Server security and best practices.
  • Define and establish operational processes.
  • Apply security best practices and methodologies.
  • Install, configure and manage Clustered SQL Servers including the management and deployment of
  • Microsoft patches and updates.
  • Be part of an out of hours support team.
  • Adhere to change control and release procedures.
  • Monitor system availability and capacity.

Candidate requirements:

  • At least three years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008- 2016.
  • Oracle MySQL (Community, Standard and Enterprise)
  • Educated to GCSE standards (or equivalent) with qualifications in English and Maths
  • Experience of analysis and reporting services and SQL Server Integration Services
  • Experience with MS SQL clustering using Windows Server 2008, Server 2012, or 2016 including installation
  • Experience of SQL Server migrations and consolidations would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of SQL Server replication and TDE would be advantageous
  • Understanding of the concepts of structured data storage and retrieval
  • Excellent communication skills
